Where to Stay in Yangshuo
West Street, countryside, river views — which area is right for you, at every budget.
Yangshuo's 3 Main Areas
1. West Street Area (Town Center)
Best for: First-time visitors, nightlife, convenience. West Street is Yangshuo's pedestrian-only tourist strip — bars, restaurants, souvenir shops. Staying here puts you in the center of everything within walking distance. Hotels range from 100 RMB guesthouses to 500+ RMB boutique hotels. Downside: it's noisy until midnight, and the area feels touristy rather than authentic.
Budget pick: Yangshuo Sudder Street Guesthouse (~120 RMB/night). Mid-range: Yangshuo Mountain Retreat (~400 RMB).
2. Countryside (2-5 km Outside Town)
Best for: Scenery lovers, couples, photographers. The real magic of Yangshuo is waking up to karst peaks outside your window. Countryside guesthouses offer exactly that — many have rooms facing the mountains with rice paddies in between. You'll need a bike or e-bike to get around (10-15 minutes to town), but the tradeoff is worth it. Prices are often lower than town center for much better views.
Budget pick: Yangshuo Outside Inn (~150 RMB). Mid-range: The Apsara Lodge (~350 RMB). Splurge: Yangshuo Sugar House (former sugar mill, ~1000+ RMB).
3. Yulong River Area
Best for: Peace, luxury, riverside views. The Yulong River valley is 5-8 km from Yangshuo town — quieter than the countryside near town, with some of the most beautiful scenery in the region. Several boutique hotels and resorts have opened here with stunning river views. Best if you have your own transport and want to escape completely.
Pick: Banyan Tree Yangshuo or Alila Yangshuo (both 1500+ RMB). Budget: Yulong River Hostel (~100 RMB).
Where NOT to Stay
Avoid hotels marketed as "Yangshuo" that are actually in Guilin city or along the highway between the two. Always check the location on a map — if it's more than 8 km from Yangshuo town center, you'll spend too much time commuting.
